May 2008 Newsletter
The May 2008 campout was held at Sequoyah
Resort Park, just East of Wagoner. We had 9 Hitchhiker members.
We had a number of quests, all were friends of Dennis & Carolyn Maxwell, Tom
& Teresa Lynn. The Lynn's are from OKC. They spent the weekend with us and
we enjoyed having them. The Maxwell's also had another guest for our pot
luck on Friday, Dick & Cherry Owell. They also fit in with our group. The
Maxwell's also had their 2 grandson with Justin & Jordan. Delbert & Jean
Bouse joined us Saturday and went to lunch with us.
The members present at this camp out were, Doyle Rowe, Ron & Shirley
Griffin, Karen & Gene Thrailkill (Host), Zane & LuAnn Callahan, Drewman &
Martha Marsh, Cliff & Inez Tucker, John & Debbie Riley, Lu & Barry
Barratiere.
On the way down to the campout, Tucker had a problem but as always, he
solved it. I believe everyone agreed that the park we were at and the
weather was the best we have had in a long time. We had a camp fire every
night, thanks to John & Debbie Riley. Debbie also provided marshmallows and
forks for roasting or burning which ever you liked.
Some of the members did enjoy fishing and touring the area. Friday night we
had our pot luck, our host, Gene & Karen, put on a great meal.
Our thanks go out to the Thrailkills for the hosting and for Gene doing the
Sunday morning devotional. We had lunch Saturday at "The Cherokee
Restaurant", it was great and very reasonably priced.
President: Dennis Maxwell called the meeting to order on
Friday night after the Pot luck. Dennis passed out a new May 2008 club
roster assembled by the Martha Marsh. If any changes need to be made please
call Martha. Thanks again Martha and your daughter for the list. There was
some discussion on the schedule for 2008 and 2009.
Treasurer: Karen Thrailkill reported that we had $1626.23 in
our Treasury.
Secretary: Barry Barratiere handed out 2009 proposed schedule
put together by Jim Johnson's Committee. Barry asked everyone to look over
the schedule and email or call him or Jim with their concerns. The next
meeting (June) we would approve the schedule.
Wagon master: Ron Griffin made a recommendation to change the
November 2008 campout at Robbers Cave, because of the distance and weather.
After some discussion and vote the club approved a change to Shawnee Fire
Lake Casino Camp Ground, if we can get it. They have a club house and around
200 spots. Dennis Maxwell was to check it out and make reservations if it
was available.
Next Camp Out: The next camp out for June 11-15 is Boiling
Springs State Park in Woodward. Take Hwy 270 out of Watonga, NW to Woodward,
at Hwy 412 in Woodward go straight across or N to Hwy 34 go 2 miles to Hwy
34C, turn E and follow signs to the camp ground. Our host for this outing is
Ron & Shirley Griffin. They plan on Friday night pot luck of Pull-A-Part
Barbecue Brisket. Bring what goes with it.
Chaplin's Report: Dennis commented on those members and
friends that we needed to keep in our prays i.e. Rhonda Clayton, Harry &
Bonnie Harrison.
