Oklahoma Hitchhiker Club

July 2008 Newsletter

The July camp out was scheduled for Claremore City Fairgrounds. But because of electrical problems at the fairgrounds the club had to move to another location. We moved to the Will Rogers Downs, Cherokee Casino and Campgrounds.

Some of the club has seen this area before. There are over 400 sites at the campground. They also allowed the club to use their clubhouse at no charge. Some of those attending did visit the casino, others went to the Belvidere Mansion and Tea room in Claremore.

Those that were at this campout were: Callahans, Tuckers, Johnsons, Marshes, Griffins, Halls and the Maxwells. Delbert & Jean Bouse did camp with us. They provided us with their knowledge of the area and keeping us active for this campout. We had lunch at Charlie's Chicken (Bouse's son owned a couple locally). Our other guest were Terry & Kay Simpson (Diane Johnson's brother and wife from Claremore). James & Sherry Bouse (Bouse's Son and wife from this area). Also visiting with us was Reagan Travis, Marshes granddaughter. The potluck dinner Friday night was BBQ brisket provided by hosts, Griffins & Marshes. There was a 50/50 drawing and the winners were, George Hall and Shirley Griffin. The club received $21.00.

The Sunday morning Brunch, provided by our hosts the Griffins and the Marsh's, was biscuits and gravy. Dennis Maxwell gave the Devotional about Antichrist and Revelations.

Secretary's Report: Barry was not present. Carolyn Maxwell provided notes from the meeting to Barry. Thanks Carolyn.

Old Business: Some discussion was made about the changing of the Nov 08 camp out to Robbers Cave.  It was tabled to first see if we could find a campground in Guthrie. Barry was asked to check it out and get back with the president.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

People are like tea bags: you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are.
