October 2007 Newsletter
We had ten rigs camping
this month at Grove, OK. Those attending were Barratieres, Callahans,
Griffins, Johnsons, Marshes, Owens, Rowe, Thrailkills, Tuckers, and Wests.
It was almost perfect Indian Summer type weather, good to sit outside and
catch up on all the plans for the HH Rally in Missouri. The ladies shopped
for craft items to build the OK entry for the scarecrow competition and some
also shopped for hats for the red hat luncheon. We had fish twice at a local
restaurant and a hamburger cookout, compliments of our Hosts, the Marshes
and Thrailkills. The girls always shop at the local stores and the men
checked out all the garage sales and a craft fair in the area. The ladies
had lunch at a very nice restaurant that specialized in soup, sandwiches and
salads. Some of the men tried out the food and their luck at a casino. On
Sunday morning we enjoyed Diane’s and Karen’s sweet rolls and fruit and then
had Food for the Soul Devotional presented by Bill West.
BUSINESS MEETING: President Thrailkill called the meeting to order October
5th at 6:45.; Gene read a note from Erby thanking everyone for
the support and love shown him in the loss of his beloved Tommie. We did not
have a campout in September, but the minutes were accepted as printed in the
August Newsletter. Martha reported we have $1,335.00 in the Club account. We
have a few Hitchhiker caps for sale at a bargain, $11.oo ea. Gene read a
letter from the Diabetic Assn. stating the funds we donate will be equally
matched. Our donation last year was $150.00. No decision was made on the
Christmas dinner for this year. We do have reservations at Twin Falls R.V.
Park in OKC for December and encourage everyone to come out and camp and
join in the fun and fellowship. The club house has wonderful facilities for
winter camping, such as a large wood burning fireplace and a giant screen TV
with cable.
PRAYER REQUESTS: Carolyn and Doyle had surgery and are recovering at home.
Bonnie had some teeth extracted and additional dental work. Harry is feeling
better. Rhonda is on Chemo at home. Shirley and Lu with health problems and
also, Erby.

The 2007 Hitchhiker International gathering in Sedalia, MO, was "rally
rally" good! Six of our Club couples attended and took advantage of most of
the seminars and the opportunity to have the Hitchhiker company make repairs
on our rigs. Also, classes in cooking, cosmetics, wreath making, quilting, a
Pampered Chef demo, and a style show of mix-and-match cotton clothing kept
the gals busy. A Red Hat luncheon, a Greasy Hat luncheon (men only), Bingo
night, musical entertainment, a catered breakfast and dinner, visiting and
spending money with vendors, and much more filled the 3 1/2 days. On Friday
morning, Johnsons headed to KY, Owens and Wests to Branson (but decided to
come home instead), and the caravan back to Oklahoma was made up of
Callahans, Marshes and Thrailkills. The Rally was enjoyable, everyone stayed
safe and hopefully, the Hitchhiker Club of Oklahoma will have a presence at
the 2008 Rally in the Houston area!
